The Pufferfish is expanding… bit.ly is hiring!

bit.ly has continued to grow at a breakneck pace, and it is once again time to expand our fabulous engineering team. You’ll be working in a flat (flat out), transparent, fast-paced and casual environment in the heart of the Meatpacking District in New York City. We offer competitive compensation and full benefits. If you think have what it takes to contribute to the continued growth and development of bit.ly, and you meet the qualifications below, send your resume and cover letter in PDF format (or fascinating email) to jobs@bit.ly. All positions are on-site.

Infrastructure Engineer

You’re the kind of person who lives to develop rock-solid, high performance, highly reliable, and highly scalable web architectures, and you don’t get out of bed for less than 1,000 requests/second. You have 5+ years working in environments involving large multi-homed operational deployments, high data volumes, asynchronous processing models, and are comfortable with all stages of the technology stack. You’re a strong C & Python coder, but aren’t afraid to work in other languages. You have experience with a variety of database stores, including MySQL, Tokyo Cabinet, and MongoDB. You’re comfortable with distributed architectures and computational processing models such as Hadoop. While a careful and thorough engineer, you’re comfortable working in a fluid, flexible environment.

API/Platform Engineer

You’ll be responsible for continuing to build out the bit.ly API and supporting the efforts of the development community. You’re a strong Python coder who enjoys building, testing, documenting, and evangelizing public APIs. You have a strong understanding of open web standards, authentication schemes, and the role public APIs have to play in the modern web ecosystem.

Data Scientist

You love data! You may come from an ivory tower, but you’re willing to get down and dirty with your data! You have a strong statistical/machine learning background. You’ll be tasked with exploring and learning new things from our rich dataset while also building data-rich products and infrastructure. You can debate the merits of various map/reduce implementations and love inverting matrices before breakfast. You have a knack for figuring out how to extract interesting value from real-world data. Python experience is a plus.

Frontend Engineer

You enjoy bending the DOM to your will, crafting rich, performant cross platform interfaces, and making browsers do things they didn’t know they were capable of doing. You manipulate CSS/JS as if they were silly putty. You’ll be working from the application layer forward (server-side), working closely with both our UI/UX team, and our infrastructure team. Python experience is a plus.

Systems Administrator

You understand linux enough to know that /proc is always the best place to look. You’ve managed high availability systems with a multitude of virtual machines on multitudes of hosts in multiple data centers. The kernel fears you, not the other way around. You do everything from adding users and locking down boxes, to configuring and maintaining nginx/mysql/nosql. You’re thorough and detail oriented, but you don’t shy away from the bleeding edge of technology.
